WORT 89.9 FM — Eklund on Supporting Kids After a Crisis

WORT Community Radio interviewed Katie Eklund following the shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in December 2024. Katie shared strategies for supporting kids after a crisis event.

From the original WORT post:

The SSM Health Dean Medical Group clinic on Buckeye Road cancelled all of its appointments yesterday to clear a space for a reunification center, where students received treatment, access to resources, and met up with parents following the school shooting at Abundant Life.

Across Madison, there was an outpouring of community support. And many parents across the area had difficult conversations about safety with their kids.

Katie Eklund is a professor of educational psychology at UW Madison and co-director of the School Mental Health Collaborative. She tells WORT News Producer Faye Parks some strategies for supporting kids following events like these.
